As, Ohio’s largest distributor of food service products and restaurant supplies, (servicing greater Cleveland and Greater Columbus), Sysco Cleveland is dedicated to helping its customers succeed. A wholly owned subsidiary of Sysco Corporation, the largest food service distributor in North America, Sysco Cleveland distributes fresh & frozen meat, poultry, seafood, fruits & vegetables, canned & dry goods, fresh produce, paper & disposable products, cleaning supplies and kitchen equipment.
Customers include restaurants, schools, hotels, health care institutions and other food service operations.
   Parent company Sysco Corporation was formed in 1969 when several independent food service distributors merged. Shortly after its founding, Sysco began to acquire additional distributors that shared Sysco’s philosophy of “helping its customers succeed.” Sysco Cleveland, which was started in 1967 by Jack Reasoner as the Cleveland division of The Miesel Company of Detroit, Michigan, began as one of those acquisitions. In 1972, The Miesel Company merged with the newly formed Sysco Corporation. While organic growth has been a key part of Sysco Cleveland’s growth strategy, several acquisitions have also fueled its growth, necessitating. several moves to larger facilities over the years.
   In the beginning, Sysco Cleveland was primarily focused on dry grocery products, since the distribution of nonperishable items was simple and did not require costly refrigerated delivery vehicles. Since then, Sysco Cleveland has expanded its product offerings into everything a restaurant, hotel, school, hospital or longterm care facility needs to provide meals to its customers.
   Sysco Cleveland stocks and makes daily deliveries of anything a food service operator wants and needs, from produce, milk, eggs and meat, to coffee, vegetables, soups and desserts. As a broadline food service distributor, Sysco Cleveland even provides the plates, glasses and cutlery as well as the products to clean and wash everything.
   Sysco Cleveland moved to its current site in Cleveland in August 2004. The location near Hopkins Airport was desirable because of its proximity to the Cleveland highway system and to the company’s employee and customer base. Centered on 49 acres, Sysco Cleveland’s state-of-the-art facility, engineered to be as environmentally- friendly as possible, was designed for efficiency and future growth and is able to operate under any conditions. The facility is composed of a multitemperature distribution center, a truck maintenance facility, an automated truck wash facility and a fueling center. A modern fleet of more than 100 multitemperature trucks are dispatched daily throughout Northeast Ohio to ensure that Sysco Cleveland’s customers get what they need, when they need it, delivered properly at the safe storage temperature.
